Preparation For An Initial Fitness Assesment
Positive Lifestyle Training offers you the opportunity to take part in a free fitness assessment prior to the exercise programme commencement.
For your own safety, it is vital for me to establish your current fitness level prior to fitness prescription. It is widely accepted that there are four main components of fitness: -
- Body Composition
- Flexibility
- Muscular Strength and Endurance
- Cardio respiratory Efficiency
The aim of the fitness assessment is to provide me with information on your fitness levels and lifestyle habits. To help gain the information I will use the following tests: -
- Health and Lifestyle Questionnaire.
- Blood Pressure: indicates fitness, stress and cardiovascular risk factors.
- Resting Heart Rate: guide of fitness.
- Girth Measurements: ideal way of monitoring your progress and shows corresponding changes occurring in the body.
- Body Fat Measurements and Weight taken on Tanita scales: way of monitoring your Results. (this is optional if you prefer not to have your weight taken)
- Height Measurement: measures your growth pattern.
If you do not want some of the tests done, please advise me. The assessment will take approximately 45 minutes and you will need to be dressed in appropriate clothing (tracksuit/shorts, tee-shirt and trainers.) Before the fitness assessment, it is vital the following guidelines are adhered to: -
- Do not eat a heavy meal less than 3 hours prior to the test.
- Avoid alcohol on the day of the test (and the day before if possible).
- Do not smoke less than 3 hours before the test.
- Do not carry out any physical activity on the day of the test.
- Never have a fitness assessment if you are feeling unwell.
All of the above will probably change your heart rate and blood pressure quite considerably and will therefore result in false results during your assessment.
